2007 update. I’ve been officially retired since the end of ‘99. I did some independent consulting for a while, but life in retirement is much better. Kirsten's law practice continues to flourish and she has become nationally recognized in the field of immigration law. I’m staying active as long as all the body parts more or less keep functioning. We've recently taken a couple of combination bike/vacation trips to France. In '06, I successfully completed the Raid Pyrenean a ride of 450 miles, 18 passes and 36,000 feet of climbing in less than 100 hours (includes eating, sleeping, drinking). The route goes from the Atlantic coast through the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean. In '02, I competed in the Etape du Tour (an annual race covering one stage of the Tour de France two days before the pros arrived) in the Alps. We still ski frequently in California in addition to my trips to Colorado and Canada heli and cat skiing. We celebrated the millennium with fireworks and champagne on the mountain at Whistler.

Other travel outside Europe has included Australia, New Zealand (hiked the Milford Track, several of our National Parks in the West and periodic visits back East.

I had lunch with Bob Judd and Howard Junker before the Holidays. It was fun hearing some old school stories from our respective declining memories. Reconnecting with everybody through the website has been great as I have been hopeless when it comes to maintaining contacts with old friends.

(heavy construction/engineering firm). Worked in various engineering and management positions on large international construction projects in Vietnam, Liberia, Korea, Okinawa and Brunei. From '71 through '80 lived and worked in the regional corporate offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Jakarta. In '80 I returned to California and managed various construction projects in Alaska and Western US. '85-'97 worked for MTC, a San Francisco engineering/construction management firm and Pacific Rim Services, a business consulting firm specializing in facilitating business between Asia and US. I returned to Brazil in '89 and visited the village where I lived as a Peace Corps volunteer in the early sixties. Interesting visit and some dramatic changes, both positive and negative, in the intervening 25 years.

First marriage in ‘71 ended in divorce in ’88. Married Kirsten in '94. Joint interests include skiing, biking, running and triathlons (age group winner). I regularly sailed and raced while living in Asia, including a couple of ocean races, and in San Francisco.
