Edward Bond (Editor's note. The following was received from Ed on 8/30/07)Ed graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, BCE (’61) and then returned for a MCE (’63). Married Barbara (Skidmore College ’63) and they have 2 children, Douglas (Leesburg, VA) and Brian. (Blacksburg, VA). He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as Chief Engineer Bridges & Structures and lives in Marietta, Georgia. He and Barbara moved as railroads merged, Delaware & Hudson (Albany, NY), Norfolk & Western (Roanoke, VA) and Norfolk Southern (Atlanta, GA). Ed and Barbara decided to stay in the Atlanta area, with its four seasons, but almost no snow. They enjoy a small cabin in North Carolina just outside the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and frequent trips to the San Juan Mountains of Colorado and other mountainous areas of the West. Ed enjoys the high elevation jeep roads of the San Juan’s although Barbara is not sure she does. Their son Douglas, a partner in a consulting engineering firm, and his wife, provided twin girl grandchildren. Other son, Brian, a professor at Virginia Tech, married another Virginia Tech professor. Barbara directs a senior chorus and volunteers at a pregnancy center. Ed enjoys researching industrial and railroad history and has assisted various authors with old photographs and historical data. He also enjoys working in his extensive metal working shop and is trying to cut his numerous hobbies back to a more manageable level. |
