Mary (Broadbent) Gedney
(Editor's note. The following was received from
Mary on 7/15/07)
Mary and Bob Gedney have lived in the Lehigh Valley in
Pennsylvania for 42 of the 47 years they have been married. However they
have lived in 9 different homes. They have restored 3 Pennsylvania stone
farmhouses and created a mini-estate subdivision of one with 28 acres. They
gutted a 1970’s Williamsburg cape creating an open light floor plan and last
year designed and built a home in a community of homes where all the
exterior maintenance is provided for. A step in the right direction they
hope to an easier lifestyle.
For the past 27 plus years Mary has been a licensed realtor. Still working
way too many hours as the company RE/MAX of the Valley is Mary’s office.
With 31 agents and her own Gedney Team of buyer agents, days are very full.
Bob retired a couple of years ago from owning and managing a Toyota Lift
Truck franchise and now assists Mary along with his side kick, Lucy (our
Portuguese Water Dog). Bob is very active in several non profit
organizations lending his gregarious nature and dedication to some great
causes.
Beth now 44 and Jim 42 who both traveled out of the area for a while, have
returned to the Lehigh Valley and live within a couple of miles of Nana and
Pa. Beth and her husband Brad have 3 girls, Kate 15, Meg 13 and Liz nearly
10. They are very involved in Field Hockey as the Emmaus school team, one of
the best in the country, has them looking forward to continuing in college
that is only a few years away. Horses are much a part of their
extracurricular activities as well with Liz and her mom still showing
competitively. Beth somehow fits into her schedule working as a realtor in
Mary’s office.
Jim and his wife Gwyn have the Gedney line of succession nailed down with
Jack, 18 months old (named after Bob’s brother Jack). A new sibling is
expected in February, 2008. Jim is a realtor in Mary’s office and Gwyn a
regional manager for Coach. It is great fun to have this sunny little guy
around as he rapidly enters the adventure stages of growing up. With less
than a two year old and an infant, their lives will be crazy, but then we
forget we all did that as well.
In the future Mary hopes to scale down a bit, and travel more with Bob. Over
the years traveling to Japan several times, Thailand (Beth and Brad lived
there), Hawaii often (Mary’s brother John (’55) has a winter home on the big
island), Europe, and here in the US. Winter usually gives Mary and Bob the
opportunity to visit the Davis’s (Bill ’54) and sometimes catch Rick and Jan
(’56) McCoy in Florida. Martha’s Vineyard this summer and long weekends in
Bethany Beach refresh the old bones and spirit.
Thankful for good health and great family and friends the Gedneys are really
looking forward to the reunion and spending time with friends from a very
special time in our lives. HGHS and the 50’s were a great place and time to
grow up.
