2020 May 14th - Bruce passed away - read obituary

2007 update. Forty five years later we are still sharing the outdoors. Our 3 children are married and have produced four grandchildren. We have filled our empty nest with rescued Shelties. The Land Trust has now preserved over 1800 acres so Bruce continually upgrades chain saws and tractors. I spend hours gardening at home or maintaining an historic garden I planted. Through a local organization, I am fighting developers trying to preserve our very rural town. We and sometimes the kids and grandkids still camp, hike, play tennis, bike and ski. Each winter, we go skiing out West with Red and Ann Decker Erda. Our travels take us to visit kids, friends and places we have never seen. Two summers ago, we stayed with Bill and Gareth Miller in Nova Scotia (see picture). Next summer we are off to Idaho to visit Judy and Biggy Smith.

1997 recap, Bruce’s travels with IBM took us to some great places in Europe and Southeast Asia. On our own we peddled through back roads in France, Belgium and Holland. In ’93, Bruce retired after 30 years with IBM and became Executive Director of the Aspetuck Land Trust, saving land, building trails and raising money in 4 towns including ours.

1982 recap.  We started dating while Bruce was at Cornell and I at Connecticut College rooming with Ann Decker. In 1962, after Bruce’s 5 years of ME and my graduate year at Columbia, we married. Bruce escaped immediately to Memphis to train to protect us all as a “Navy week-end warrior.’’ I stayed at home earning money as a teacher of the deaf. We reunited after 6 months and Bruce began his career with IBM in sales and marketing. Work and the birth of our 3 kids took us to the exciting Hudson Valley cities of Peekskill, Wappingers Falls and Poughkeepsie. In ’73, we moved to Easton, Ct. While Bruce spent endless hour commuting to the city, I volunteered tutoring the deaf and working in our local schools. College guidance became my specialty.
