(Editor's note. The following was received from
Linda & Doug on 7/17/07)
2007 recap. Doug and I retired after many years of teaching high
school biology together in a large suburban district north of Albany (
Clifton Park, NY ). As our two children grew up, our summers were spent
camping in the West, touring, fishing, taking courses in the National Parks
and of course, golfing. Our children told us upon graduation that they were
settling west of the Mississippi and they did. Our daughter joined Motorola
in PHX and our son is a pilot with Alaska/Horizon Air in Washington.
So... the first grandchild was born in AZ; we retired, sold most everything
and followed them west. to the PHX area. Now we have five grandchildren and
really enjoy our non-rev benfits to Spokane.
We live in the beautiful Sonoran desert east of PHX up against the
Superstition Mts.. Gold Canyon is a mushrooming community filling with
people from elsewhere. We enjoy golf, some intense volunteering, new friends
and this strange new ecosystem. Our landscaping consists of xerophytic
plants with a drip watering system and "grass" we don't mow - 1/2inch
Madison Gold granite. We use water twice and now know firsthand that all
deserts are not the same.
We still migrate summers but now we escape the heat and wander through MT,
WY and CO. Doug is an excellent fly fisherman (makes the rods and ties the
trout flies). Three of our five grandchildren have been introduced to the
delights of the MT Bitteroot Valley, both fishing and camping ( I read and
play the games).
We love the Sonoran desert but as we sit in this MT wilderness we thank and
remember Mr.
Reinhart whenever we make a good putt and Ms. Kurson
whenever we have to write something like this.
Please come visit (only Jane Eller and her husband have found us).
1997 recap. They both retired in June '96 from
Shenendehowa HS. They travel to Europe and the Western US and plan to move
to the Phoenix area. Doug fishes trout streams in Montana, Wyoming and
Colorado. They have been to all 50 US states and are trying to golf in all
50 as well.
1982 recap. Doug earned his BA at Gettysburg College, his
MA at Columbia and another at Union College. Linda earned her BA at Mt
Holyoke. They were married in '62 and went to Oklahoma and Colorado as Doug
served 2 years in the Army, They have two children, Laura Jean and Bill
Douglas. They are both currently biology students at Shenendehowa High
School in Clifton park. They spent a summer in Alaska. Linda enjoys
gardening, reading, camping and aerobics. Doug likes fly fishing, gardening
and reading.
