Richard Preiss
2016 Note from Richard;
Thanks for letting us know about the Class of '57 website status.
Anyway, by now you probably know that Marilyn (Cronk) passed last fall.
I was very sorry to learn that as she was one of our original kindergarten
class members.
We still see Jane (Eller) once in a while. She and George come up to
Oregon to stay in a condo near Mt. Hood and play a few rounds of golf.
2016 was a special year for us.
Our oldest grandchild, Kerri, graduated
from HS and is now a freshman in college (Sr photo attached).
I noticed that HGHS received another "Best in the nation" recognition. I
did not appreciate how great (rigorous) my HGHS education was until
experiencing what my children and grandchildren were receiving from lesser
schools. You may recall that I was only an average student. Therefore,
after graduation I joined the Navy to mature and enter electronic technician
school. During my 3rd year in the Navy I took the SATs cold, and
surprisingly "passed" them. I was accepted by Worcester Polytech in 1960
and made Dean's List. I'm not "tooting my own horn," only noting that Horace
Greeley must still have the finest facultys ever.
Greeting everyone ... Dick
2006 Note from Richard;
I retired January 1, 2005 from Stoel Rives LLP, where I
wrote and obtained patents for various high-tech clients. My wife is Sharon
and our 2 daughters are Lorraine and Lucille. Lorraine has a newly adopted
grandchild from Russia. He became theirs and ours April 2006 and is already
speaking English and enjoying an American diet.
Lucille has 2 children Sophie and Kerril. In 2005 Sharon and I enjoyed a
Maui vacation with Lorraine and her husband Jim. We particularly enjoyed
snorkeling in Kapalua Bay and Molokini Crater. Later in 2005 we visited
Seattle, WA and Victoria, BC with Sharon's cousins from Wyoming and
California. We also enjoyed ourselves on Cousin Mike's fishing boat in the
Sydney, BC marina. We have lived in our comfortable Beaverton home since
1978 and in the same neighborhood since 1970. Sharon and I have also enjoyed
cruising in the Caribbean and Alaska, road trips in the Western U.S., and
visits to N.W. beauty spots like the Oregon Coast. Of course, caring for our
grandchildren has become a regular staple of our diets. Just last June we
finally took Kerri, Sophie, and Lucille to Disneyland. The remainder of my
life has been dominated by yardwork, remodeling, and household maintenance.
Warm regards to all
1997 recap. Richard met Sharon in 1960 while
stationed on an US Navy Destroyer home ported in Long Beach, CA. After
3 years in the Navy he returned to the East to attend Worcester Polytechnic
Inst and was rushed by frat house president
Dave Carlson. He was
unable to accept because in '61 he returned to California to marry Sharon
and transfer to California State Polytechnic University from which he
graduated in '64 with a BSEE. Move to Oregon in '69. He worked as an
Electronic Engineer and in engineering management before joining Stoel
Rivers, a general law firm, as Technical Consultant and Patent Agent.
He enjoys travel, photography, sailing, hiking, biking, camping, music, home
electronics, and home improvement projects.
